The Kitchen Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the kitchen team by assisting in preparation and provision of nutritious meals that cater to the dietary needs and preferences of our Service Users, ensuring compliance with relevant Health & Safety, and Food Hygiene requirements.

Our residents are at the heart of all we do, and you will be a personable individual able to communicate with residents and fellow staff to ensure the smooth running of the service.

Duties include but aren’t limited to:

· Assist in the preparation of meals and snacks under the direction of the Cook, including chopping, peeling, washing and basic cooking tasks as required.

· Help in the plating and serving of meals, ensuring that dietary requirements, including allergies and any special nutritional needs are met for all Service Users.

· Adhere to all health, safety and sanitation standards, including maintaining clean and organised kitchen workspaces by cleaning work surfaces, and ensuring equipment is sanitised after use.

· Ensure the correct handling and storage of food and kitchen supplies.

· Interact with Service Users in a compassionate and respectful manner, being mindful of their physical, mental and emotional well-being.

· Assist with stock control, recording goods to be ordered to ensure adequate supplies are maintained, and storing food safely in line with regulations.

· Knowledge and understanding of HACCP.

· Assist with correct portion control and reduce food waste where possible.

· Dispose of kitchen waste and recycling correctly, ensuring the environment is kept tidy.

· Support the kitchen team to complete deep cleans monthly.

· Work closely with other kitchen staff, dietary aides, and nursing staff to ensure timely meal service.

· Assist in training and supporting new kitchen staff when necessary.

· Support the cook with visits from EHO.

Qualifications

· Health and safety certificate.

· Food Hygiene certificate level 2.

· HNC level 2.
